Your Crested Gecko Care Guide

Your new crested gecko habitat has been custom-built with everything your gecko needs- from live plants and a bioactive substrate to proper climbing features and a clean-up crew including bugs like springtails and isopods already busy working within the soil. Each tank is designed with knowledge and care, with the goal of closely mimicking a natural ecosystem within a tank. This means keeping your gecko happy while making maintenance easy for you.

The Tank Setup

Tank Size: Our ProTanks Crested Gecko Tank includes a 45x45x60cm terrarium, filled with a clay ball drainage layer, a premium EarthMix soil layer, dried leaf litter, live plants, microfauna (the clean-up crew) cork hides and branches making it the perfect bioactive habitat for juveniles or adult geckos.

Substrate: Earthmix with soil, moss, and leaf litter (already included).

Decor: Your setup includes a selection of branches, cork bark, live plants and hides- perfect for climbing and hiding.

Bioactive Care

Microfauna: Springtails and isopods are already in the tank. They break down waste and keep things clean.

Plant Care: Mist plants regularly to keep humidity up and help them thrive. You can leave the lights on for 10-12 hours a day.

Humidity & Temperature

Humidity: Keep levels between 60-80%. Mist the tank once or twice daily.

Temperature: Ideal temps are 22-25 degrees celsius (72-78 degrees Fahrenheit). No heat lamp is needed unless your room is cold.

Feeding

Staple Diet: Feed a commercial crested gecko diet 3-4 times a week.

Insects: Add crickets or dubai roaches 1-2 times a week for variety. Dust with calcium occasionally.

Water: A shallow water dish is included but geckos mostly drink water droplets from misting.

Maintenance Tips 🌱

  • Spot clean any excess waste
  • Don’t overwater- Bioactive tanks are humid but not soaked although the tank has a clay ball drainage layer included to prevent root rot and overwatering
  • You shouldn’t need to deep clean if everything is running smoothly

Quick Tips

  • Handle your gecko gently and give it time to settle into its new home.
  • Regularly check their tail, skin, and eyes for signs of good health.
  • No special lighting required – but low UVB is optional and can be beneficial.
